Despite the changeable weather, the atmosphere was great right from the start. The children were divided into two mixed groups so that German and Dutch pupils could explore the zoo together. Initial conversations quickly developed during the joint encounters at the zoo - sometimes with hands and feet, sometimes in German or Dutch, often simply with a smile.
At the zoo, the children were able to observe many different animals and even make direct contact with some of them. When do you ever get to hold a real spectral cheetah or bearded dragon - a real highlight!
In addition to the language encounter, the focus was also on learning. The zoo guides explained exciting things about the habitats, diet and special features of the animals in a child-friendly way. The children listened and asked a few questions.
At the end, both groups met at the restaurant to play and eat together. All the children were given a small chip and a drink.
Conclusion:
It was an unforgettable trip with many German-Dutch language encounters.
We are already looking forward to the next adventure with our partner school.
