We were picked up from school in the morning by a bus company and taken to the EGW. Once there, we were given a practical introduction to the topic of waste, which included questions such as:
What actually is waste, what types of waste are there and why should we separate them?
After a breakfast break, we took a joint tour of the waste treatment facilities at EGW in Gescher. Here we learned clearly where the waste from the Borken district actually ends up once it has disappeared into the waste truck and what happens to it. We experienced live how organic waste from households in the Borken district is turned into compost and how it can be used.
At the end of the event, we were able to get active ourselves. We made our own paper from old newspaper pages. It was an interesting excursion!
