Every morning began with a group gathering in the schoolyard. There, our principal, Maike Albers-Wilmes, welcomed all the children. Afterward, we sang and danced together to the song “Ich fühle mich wohl” (“I Feel Good”), which was written especially for the project week—a cheerful start to the day that fostered a strong sense of community.
Throughout the week, the children attended two different workshops each day. The topics to choose from included relaxation, fitness, nutrition, friendship, happiness, discovering strengths, building social skills, and stress relief. This allowed the students to gain new experiences, discover their own abilities, and take away many ideas to apply to their daily lives.
As a lasting memento, the children created personal project portfolios documenting the week’s results and experiences. They also decorated two benches for the schoolyard. All the children left their colorful fingerprints on the benches, creating a collaborative work of art.
The two benches will remain in our schoolyard permanently, serving as a reminder of this special week. The student council will decide on the benches’ names in the coming weeks.
To wrap up the project week, many classes held special activities on Friday. Some classes enjoyed breakfast together and wrapped up the week in a cozy atmosphere. Other classes used the time for a group cleanup and, with great dedication, ensured a clean and pleasant learning environment. This once again made it clear that feeling good also means taking responsibility for the community and one’s own surroundings.
The project week showed just how important it is to take care of ourselves and one another. With many wonderful experiences, new insights, and a stronger sense of community, we can look back on a successful week.
